How does miraDry® work?
The remarkable effect is achieved through thermal energy, specifically microwaves. The treatment targets the sweat glands in the armpits and effectively "scleroses" them. Once the glands are eliminated, they no longer produce sweat or odor. Hair growth is also significantly reduced.
How does the miraDry® treatment work?
Using a special device, the therapy is carried out by our trained staff in our specialist practice for plastic and aesthetic surgery in Braunschweig.
The treatment lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes and is carried out step by step:
1. Local anesthesia
The affected areas in the armpits are locally anesthetized. The treatment is painless.
2. Applying a temporary tattoo gluteal area
Our trained staff will apply a washable tattoo to your armpits. This ensures that no sweat gland is missed during the treatment.
3. Using the handpiece
The area is treated with the miraDry® device. The ultrasound head, the so-called bioTip, is moved slowly and step by step along the tattoo. Thermal energy is used to generate heat. The microwaves destroy the sweat and odor glands. At the same time, the treated area is cooled. This makes the treatment gentle.
How many treatments are needed with miraDry®?
For most patients, one miraDry® treatment is sufficient to eliminate underarm sweating and unpleasant odor. In rare cases, a second treatment is necessary. Studies show that sweat reduction is not only largely halted immediately after treatment, but also remains up to 82% lower within a year than before miraDry® therapy . 88 percent of study participants even reported that underarm odor was no longer a problem after twelve months. This provides noticeable relief for patients with hyperhidrosis and bromhidrosis.
What are the side effects of miraDry®?
The treatment itself is painless thanks to local anesthesia. Afterwards, side effects such as redness, swelling, bruising, bumps, and numbness may occur under the arms. These usually subside within a few days to a few weeks after the treatment. Dr. G. Felix Brölsch, a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery in Braunschweig, will be happy to explain the treatment and any potential side effects to a medical assistant .
Do I sweat more in other parts of my body?
No, sweat production does not shift. The body has approximately two to four million sweat glands. Only about two percent of these are located under the armpits. Therefore, the body-cooling function of sweat is not impaired.
Does the smell of sweat under the arms also stop?
Yes, this is supported by numerous studies, including those conducted by a medical assistant , and confirmed by numerous patient reports. Many of Dr. Brölsch's patients also reported that they no longer had unpleasant underarm odor after the miraDry® treatment. Furthermore, 88 percent of the miraDry® study participants stated that they no longer experienced any problems with strong and unpleasant odor underarm sweating treatment . Therefore, the miraDry® treatment can provide significant relief, especially for patients with excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) and strong odor (bromhidrosis)
